Boosting tourism cooperation between Viet Nam and India

On March 2017, in Ha Noi, the Indian embassy in Viet Nam in collaboration with Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) organized conference on Viet Nam – India tourism cooperation.

This is a good chance for tourism businesses, airlines and localities of Viet Nam and India to share information, foster cooperation and investment in tourism.

At the conference, Mr. Pavathaneni Harish, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Viet Nam said that Viet Nam has become a popular destination for Indian tourists while India also hopes to attract more Vietnamese tourists to the country.

According to India’s Tourism Ministry, in recent years, the number of Indian tourists to Viet Nam has considerably increased, from 33,000 in 2010 to 85,000 in 2016, increasing by 30% over 2015. However, the number of Indian tourists to Viet Nam in 2016 only accounted for approximately 3% of the total of 2 million Indian tourists to ASEAN.

The Indian government has applied e-visas for many countries, including Viet Nam. The Ambassador hoped that thanks to the convenient visa procedure, more Vietnamese tourists will visit India.

At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Vice Chairwoman of VNAT spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam and India in various fields, including tourism. In order to attract more Indian tourists, Viet Nam tourism has conducted promotional activities in Indian market, such as: participating in fairs and exhibitions, organizing roadshows, Famtrip, Presstrip; welcoming Indian film crews to Viet Nam; exchanging experiences in developing new tourism products... Since 2014, some airlines have increased connectivity between the two countries.

In the coming time, VNAT will promote e-marketing, organize frequent exchange between tourism businesses, filmmakers and media agencies of the two countries.
