“Kong: Skull Island”, which was filmed in some of Vietnam's most stunning locations, is hitting global theaters on Friday, 10 Mar 2017. The filming took the cast to Quang Binh’s colossal caves, the northern province of Ninh Binh and the world-renowned Ha Long Bay, all of which are some of the most remote and beautiful parts of Vietnam, but have never before appeared in a Hollywood film.
"Kong: Skull Island" is the latest in a long line of reboots going back to the 1933 original. With Kong: Skull Island in theaters today, Warner Bros. has released a new featurette for the monster movie that highlights one of the filming locations, Vietnam
In the behind-the-scenes video, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and some of the cast talk about the importance of on-location shooting and the beauty of Vietnam's landscape.
"Jordan was very keen on that Skull Island should be made up of places on this planet," lead actor Tom Hiddleston said in the video about Earth. It's also mentioned that Skull Island is among the first Hollywood movies of its scope to film in Vietnam. The film also filmed in Hawaii and Australia.
As you'll see, Vietnam has a beautiful, exotic-looking landscape, including lush forests, high peaks, and winding rivers. "We're trying to get nature in its raw form and its wildness and show the diversity of the island," actress Brie Larson said.
In other Skull Island news, a mishap at the movie's Vietnamese premiere resulted in a King Kong model catching fire--thankfully, no one was hurt.
Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien on Friday officially appointed Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of "Kong: Skull Island", as an official tourism ambassador. Vogt-Roberts will hold the position from 2017-2020. He will be responsible for promoting Vietnam tourism through newspapers, art, photography and other forms of media.
In a recent interview with Channel News Asia, the film's director praised the "gorgeous" Vietnam for giving the movie a fresh look and making it stand out from previous retakes. Vogt-Roberts told Channel News Asia he believes the movie would do justice to Vietnam's tourism industry, just like "The Beach" (starring Leonardo DiCaprio) did to Thailand and "The Lords of the Rings" to New Zealand.
Quang Binh Province also released a video last month promoting itself as an exciting destination, reminding viewers that it was the set for the Kong blockbuster and featuring the testimony of the film’s director himself.
